Flood Planning Initiatives for Houston (as of May 2022)

Houston Flood Planning!  I attended the Flood Planning Meeting with the Houston Stronger Organization in May 2022.  If you attended the IG Live session held on Wednesday, 6/29/2022, thank you!

If you live or plan to live in the Houston area, understanding of flood planning is critical. The focus is now on flood resiliency and infrastructure.  However, there is much work to be done.

There’s still time to take action before the next legislative session.

Timeline:
5/2021 – Preplanning began
8/7/2022 – Draft must be submitted
1/10/2023 – Final regional flood plan is due
*Opportunities for amendment of the plan through summer 2023
9/2024 – Final draft required!

Here are the action steps as mentioned in the IG Live:

💡Find out about your regional flood planning group and public input meetings at TWDB.texas.gov

💡If you’re in Houston or surrounding areas, complete your data survey request at https://sanjacintofloodplanning.org -OR- email to SJRFPG.TechCon@freese.com

💡Visit Harris County Flood Control website as it’s known to be one of the best agencies in TEXAS as it relates to flooding.

💡Tell your legislators to support the Flood Infrastructure Fund!

💡Attend the public input meetings. They are listening!
